Strawberry Basil Simple Syrup
Ingredients:
1 cup water
1 cup granulated/white sugar
2-3 cups of strawberries, rinsed, stems removed and roughly chopped
8-10 basil leaves
Instructions:
-
In a small/medium saucepan, combine all ingredients.
-
Bring ingredients to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Keep on eye on this so that it doesn’t boil over and create a sticky mess on your stovetop.
-
The mixture should be thickened and will smell great!
-
Let cool for 5-10 minutes to allow flavors to seep into the syrup, and then pour contents through a fine mesh sieve into a measuring cup. Do not mash the strawberries down or it will create a cloudy syrup.
-
Keep the berries for other drinks or recipes; otherwise, discard them in the trash.
-
Store the syrup in an airtight glass container in the refrigerator.
